Tigranes II was an Artaxiad king of Armenia between 95 and 55 BC. Initially allied with the kingdom of Pontus, whose king's daughter he married, his kingdom became a client state of the Romans through diplomatic negotiations in 65 BC, following Pompey's campaign in the East. Under his reign, Armenia was a powerful kingdom at the peak of its power.
The iconography of his coinage is rather standardized: his portrait is always found on the obverse, wearing a tiara. The reverse features a more varied iconography, including the goddess Tyche, recognizable by her turreted crown and palm, and the river god Araxes.

Tigrane II est roi artaxiade d'Arménie entre 95 et 55 avant Jésus-Christ. D'abord allié au royaume du Pont dont il épouse la fille du roi, son royaume devient état client des Romains par voie diplomatique en 65 av. J.-C. suite à la campagne en Orient de Pompée. Sous son règne, l'Arménie est un royaume puissant et à son apogée.
L'iconographie de son monnayage est plutôt standardisée : on retrouve toujours son portrait sur le droit, coiffé d'une tiare. Le revers présente une iconographie plus variée parmi laquelle on retrouve la déesse Tyché, reconnaissable à sa couronne crénelée et sa palme, et le dieu-fleuve Araxès.
